| The Green Man Inn, Milwich |
Rod Webb moved into the Green Man at Milwich 17 years ago. After a year of repeatedly replacing conventional light bulbs Rod decided to change the 28 bulbs in the public areas of the pub to low energy bulbs. The next electricity bill he received allowed him to halve the direct debit to the supply company.
Over the 16 years that he has been using low energy bulbs Rod estimates that he has used 100000kWh less electricity than he would have done with ordinary bulbs - at todays prices that would be a financial saving of over £11000. |

In addition, if he had been using ordinary bulbs, he would have had to change over 1300 light bulbs. If each bulb took 5 minutes to replace that would be over 100 hours, more than 4 entire days, spent just changing bulbs. (As it is he has spent an estimated 16 hours changing 200 bulbs. He now uses bulbs with a life of 15000 hours to reduce this. Bulbs that lasted this long weren't available 16 years ago). |
Rod said "The only problem I have is the lampshades. With ordinary bulbs I used to clean them each time I changed the bulb, now the bulbs last so long I have to remember to clean them." |
